My friend, Stephanie, recently found out she's expecting her 6th child and had a really bad case of morning (all day) sickness so she asked me if I could help her out and sew up a blessing dress she was supposed to sew for her friend's baby girl, Noelle. I don't usually sew a lot of blessing dresses but I wanted to be helpful.
In all, I made a dress, diaper cover, blanket and headband. For the dress I used New Look Pattern 6877 for the bodice (and the diaper cover) and did the skirt myself. I used white satin and then an embroidered organza overlay on the skirt. I didn't want a lot of seams in the organza so it's just one long piece with the only seam being a center seam in the back. I used the scallop stitch on my sewing machine to do a scallop edge on the bottom of the organza instead of a hem. I also attached the sash into the waist seam instead of having it a separate piece.
For the blanket I used white satin on one side and a cotton white on white polka dot. I used satin blanket binding and did a decorative flower/vine stitch all the way around it.
The headband was my favorite part. I used THIS tutorial by Ashley at Make It and Love It to make the pretty felt flower. I think this dress turned out super pretty and I can't wait to see pictures of baby Noelle wearing it!
