Mermaid Outfits

I've been a little mermaid crazy lately.  There's the mermaid pajamas, the mermaid embroidery, and now these mermaid outfits for the girls.  I also have one more project planned that involves mermaids.  It all started when I did a mermaid machine embroidery on a shirt for the girls to give to one of their friends as a birthday gift and it's just kind of progressed from there.  I didn't actually do any sewing on these outfits.  The skirts and shirts are purchased from Target (from those inexpensive mix and match shelves.)  What I did do, is use my sewing machine to embroider the mermaids on the shirts and to make these adorable sea shell with swirl cover hair clips.

When you are on a tight budget this is a good way to get an outfit with a little more pizazz without spending a lot of money!

Mermaid Pajamas

It seems like my kids are always in need of new pajamas and I've had these mermaid pajama bottoms cut out since last year.  I just never got around to sewing them but I did now!

They were actually cut out to be pants but since my girls have grown quite a bit since last year .... I cut them off as shorts.  Then I appliqued a mermaid onto each of the solid colored t-shirts that I picked up at Target.  It was quick and they turned out cute, my favorite kind of project!

May Color Challenge Finished

Even though I started late, I finished up my May Color Challenge project by the end of May!

I had so much fun with this challenge!  In fact, this project inspired me to work on redoing my hall bathroom, which is were this is going to end up hanging!

Orange, Frogs, and Polka Dots

I went to a baby shower for one of the ladies from my neighborhood about a week ago and, of course, I wanted to make her a baby shower gift.  She is having a boy so I knew I wanted to do a cute tie embroidered on a bodysuit.  I had this onesie that I had dyed orange a long time ago and so I decided to use it because I thought it just looked so cute with the frog fabric from the blanket.  I dug through my scraps and found this cute polka dot that also matched to use for the tie.  I ended up using all stuff I had around already for this set so it was a nice stash buster project.  I love the way it turned out and I really need to work with my stash more often!

May Outfits for the Girls

I was lucky enough to get the chance to go visit my BFF, Stephanie, in Colorado a few weeks ago.  She had asked me what the one thing I wanted to do while I was there was and I said do a sewing project for the girls together, start to finish, like we used to.  So we picked out a pattern, went shopping, and stitched up coordinating outfits for her girls and mine!  We used two coordinating prints and then each girl got their own color.  For my girls I used pink and yellow.

I had so so so much fun sewing with my BFF again!  The girls look super cute in their outfits!  It was just like old times and I wish I could do it again!

May Color Challenge Start

I'm a little late to start but I decided to join Crafty Sheep's May Color Challenge.  This stitch-a-long really appealed to me because it's simple, just use the colors!  Here's what I came up with.....

I've had this pattern saved for quite a long time now and this seemed like the perfect project for it.  The colors are really close to the colors I have in my hall bathroom and I think this little mermaid will fit in well with the ocean decor I already have.  I picked colors from floss I already had and ended up with the following:  Green 581, Light Blue 3811, Dark Blue 924, Orange 722, Yellow 3822 I'm stitching it all on a white on white polka dot fabric and I plan on framing it in the hoop which I will probably spray paint.  I'm super excited to stitch up this project and there's still time for you to join in the fun!
