Welcome Baby Boy Gift Set

Tonight, I went to a fun baby shower for one of the women in my neighborhood.  I wanted to make something fun for it so I did some searching around the internet and found a fun way to recycle a four bottle drink box.  I was completely inspired by the idea and used it as a jumping off point.  In the end I incorporated that idea with a personalized baby blanket and bodysuit gift set.

I used a recycled four bottle drink box and covered it with scrapbook paper.  I used a little ribbon to decorate and added a cute welcome baby tag.  To fill it up I made a blanket, two appliqued onesies, two burp clothes, and two pee pee cones.  The blanket is two patterned cottons and a solid binding.  For one onesie, I hand dyed it brown and used the striped fabric to make a cute tie applique.  The other onesie I left white and did a cut out applique of a kiwi bird because her family is from New Zealand and I figured the kiwi would be a good way to represent that.  Then I made burp clothes and two pee pee cones (also know as pee pee tepees, to cover your little boy's parts when you change their diaper so they don't pee everywhere) using the leftovers of the patterned fabrics and terry cloth.  I thought the terry cloth would be nice and absorbent.  I loved making this little set and, other than my stitching being a little sloppy because I was in a hurry to get it done, I think it turned out wonderful and would love to make this set over and over again.  Which brings me to........

I OPENED an Etsy Shop!  The only item I have in it right now is this set as a custom gift set.  Meaning I will make this set CUSTOM to your choice of Color and/or Theme!  Right now I only have the little boy set listed but I'm working on getting a little girl set done.  I also plan on listing custom blankets (like I've made many times before) and premade gift sets like this one!  Once I get my shop a little more filled out I will have an official grand opening!  So watch for more information coming very soon!

Noelle's Blessing Dress

My friend, Stephanie, recently found out she's expecting her 6th child and had a really bad case of morning (all day) sickness so she asked me if I could help her out and sew up a blessing dress she was supposed to sew  for her friend's baby girl, Noelle.  I don't usually sew a lot of blessing dresses but I wanted to be helpful.

In all, I made a dress, diaper cover, blanket and headband.  For the dress I used New Look Pattern 6877 for the bodice (and the diaper cover) and did the skirt myself.  I used white satin and then an embroidered organza overlay on the skirt.  I didn't want a lot of seams in the organza so it's just one long piece with the only seam being a center seam in the back.  I used the scallop stitch on my sewing machine to do a scallop edge on the bottom of the organza instead of a hem.  I also attached the sash into the waist seam instead of having it a separate piece.

For the blanket I used white satin on one side and a cotton white on white polka dot.  I used satin blanket binding and did a decorative flower/vine stitch all the way around it.

The headband was my favorite part.  I used THIS tutorial by Ashley at Make It and Love It to make the pretty felt flower.  I think this dress turned out super pretty and I can't wait to see pictures of baby Noelle wearing it!
